Water Quality

As a club that is passionate about conservation and protection of wildlife, we are extremely diligent in the testing of the runoff from our property to ensure that a minimal impact is made on water quality. You will find a summary of our water quality testing results in our environmental management plan.

Vegetation Cover

Monitoring our vegetation cover in the shot fall zone allows us to maintain low surface erosion rates. The monitoring plan ensures that our shot falls into heavily vegetated areas. These areas have less surface runoff, restricting the amount of lead particles being transported by wind and water.

Surface Erosion

Surface erosion is closely monitored as it is a strong indicator of wind or precipitation runoff that is carrying soil particles and, by extension, lead particles. Our level landscape with dense vegetation is well perfect for restricting runoff and erosion. Annual visual inspection is conducted to ensure that all of our mitigation plans are maintaining their effectiveness.

SOIL pH

Soil pH has a direct impact on the amount of lead that becomes soluble. Acidic soil environments promote the dissolution of lead particles. Conversely, moderate pH tends to cause dissolved lead to precipitate out of solution. Applying lime or phosphate to the soil, as well as collection of loose lead shot can help to prevent lead dissolution. There are four pH testing sites distributed across the shot fall zone that are monitored bi-annually.
